Wiyoga Muhardanto's solo exhibition, Window Display, has been inspired by our daily life—in particular, by the experience of wandering around shopping malls or department stores. Most of Muhardanto's works have been produced through a careful study of the appearances of three-dimensional objects, their colors, shapes, volume, and texture. This is not merely because he was trained formally in sculpture, it is also due to his inclination to seek out the symbolic qualities of surrounding everyday objects: bag, car, motorbike, wallet, and so on. Through his works he subvert the appearance and signs of mass produced, everyday objects and makes unpredictable and clever associations and statements. For the last four years, Wiyoga's works have shown his capacity as a young artist possessing unique skills, not only in deconstructing and subverting signs and symbols, but also conveying criticism in a sharp and compelling way. This exhibition marks his solo debut that presents his recent works.
