Bale Tonggoh is the youngest of all the exhibition spaces in Selasar complex, acting as an exhibition production unit under Bale Project (established in 2015). Bale Tonggoh helps to realize Bale Project’s exhibition programs that are intended to support the independence and continuity of Selasar’s noncommercial projects—which we hope to develop and sustain long into the future.
Selasar Sunaryo was founded by Sunaryo and Selasar’s existence cannot be separated from Sunaryo’s vision. Sunaryo’s works are usually rich with visual abstraction. Abstraction—certainly with particular artistic intentions—is none other than visual economics. With an artist’s perception and through various experimentation conducted on the special characteristics of each form and material, abstraction creates a distance from representation. However, visual abstraction is foremost not an issue of material economics, but rather an economy of events. Sunaryo’s solo exhibition at Museum Selasar, to commemorate 20 years of SSAS, can be taken as the most recent reference point of such a tendency. Most of Selasar’s programs, especially those that target young artists living and working in Bandung, receive a new boost from this current exhibition. Selasar Sunaryo Art Space is surely for Bandung, but Bandung is for the world +++
