Inner Dream Poetry is Sunaryo solo exhibition showing the works which was produced in his residency process at Singapore Tyler Print Institute, Singapore (2007), an international institution which is engaged in production, technological development and publication of graphic prints and paper art works.

The works in this exhibition reflects the advanced stage in Sunaryo’s artistic exploration, especially in processing the material as a metaphor. Paper to be the nature representation in a broad sense because of variety mortality and frailness characters that resemble universal law of nature.

If generally, paper was viewed as a conventional supporting media—like canvas, or a two-dimensional flat surface, which only' hold 'lines, colors and field—Sunaryo even treat paper as 'raw' material. Sunaryo did not only fill the papers with the composition of field, line, color and prints pattern, but also he torn, patched, pressed, printed, coated, stick most of the paper with different visual element.

The visual elements that appear predominantly on Sunaryo’s works this time were his fingerprint and hand images. His visual exploration this time was driven by interest in the most personal human identity issue—which is identical to the palm hand or fingerprint images. Fingerprint forms were generally enlarged in such a way that resembles the rhythmic and dynamic repeated lines pattern. In some works, fingerprints were 'flown' with a printed batik motif (Java) images that he analogized as a representation of social or cultural identity. This is the way of Sunaryo to question the tension between the personal/intrinsic and cultural/artificial.

If we understand that a lyric poem as an expression composition that is manifested through the expression of literary structures that rely on sound processing and sound dramatization—rhyme, words grammar and rhythm-then surely we can also find the 'spirit of lyrical' in Sunaryo works. That lyricism was reflected in the expression of emotion, which is processed in such a way that is direct, spontaneous, humane, and invite readers to dialogue directly in ways that are simple, yet evocative. The works in this exhibition reflects the deepening of issue in subjective and personal way, but at the same time able to deal with universal problems.
