Program

The present touring exhibition, "Counter-Photography: Japan's Artists Today", introduces photographic  works by 11 Japanese artists. The common theme that links these works is the photographers desire to capture a world invisible to the human eye--the world of "the spirit". Such an attitude reflects the traditional Japanese approach to life, in which all objects are perceived to have a "spiritual" aspect. We hope that the works brought together in this exhibition reflect not only the variety of methods of photographic expression used by contemporary  Japanese artists, but also the unique "spirit" of each individual photographer.
