Anthropocene Residency by Zen Teh

21 Nov 2018 - 20 Jan 2019

Anthropocene Residency by Zen Teh

We welcome Singaporean artist Zen Teh for 2 months residency at SSAS. Teh’s photography-based works are a result of an interdisciplinary investigation towards human’s behavior and the way of nature. As an artist living in Singapore, Teh’s interest is driven towards how the landscape of nature has been modified in every particular way by mankind.

In her residency in Bandung, Teh will continue her Anthropocene project which she started in 2016 in Singapore. Teh will collect and study chunks of rocks and debris from construction sites in Bandung, as a representation of the excessive consumption pattern by mankind. Particularly in Bandung, Teh aims to take a more scientific approach through stratigraphic studies to investigate the possible human activities through the found rock’s composites.

Zen Teh (born and works in Singapore, 1988) is an artist and educator who is interested in human’s relation with nature. Teh’s works have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Singapore such as The National Museum of Singapore, Singapore Art Museum, and Art Science Museum. She also has done exhibitions abroad in Thailand, Taiwan, and China. Teh also has been invited as a guest speaker at regional environment conferences, for example, the ASEAN Powershift 2016 and Hanoi Innovation Week 2016 on Sustainability. Teh also won the 7th France + Singapore Photographics Art Award

=======
