“Bandung New Emergence Volume II” 1 – 29 Juni 2008 Secara konseptual, Bandung New Emergence (BNE) pada dasarnya merupakan pemetaan. Tujuan kuratorial pameran ini adalah mengupayakan sebuah representasi ranah praksis yang disebut ‘seni rupa kontemporer Bandung’ melalui karya dan sosok seniman-seniman muda. Sebagai kegiatan berkala dua tahunan, BNE ingin menghadirkan kekayaan potensi penjelajahan praktik artistik yang lahir dari berbagai situasi spesifik di Bandung dalam kurun waktu tertentu. Pameran ini meyakini, bahwa karya seni rupa selalu merupakan gema dari berbagai situasi—sosial, politik, ekonomi— di mana ia hidup. Dalam setiap penyelenggaraannya, pameran ini diharapkan dapat menuntun kepada pembacaan lebih lanjut tentang seni rupa Bandung di masa depan. Seleksi kuratorial dan rancangan pameran kali ini tidak dilakukan semata-mata untuk menggambarkan ranah praksis yang disepakati ‘ada dan telah berlangsung sebelumnya’. Bandung New Emergence Volume II bukanlah forum yang hanya ‘mengabsen’ keberadaan seniman dan karya-karya yang telah mereka buat, tapi lebih menyerupai sebuah lahan di mana eksperimentasi-eksperimentasi dimunculkan, dengan tujuan menyumbangkan gagasan-gagasan baru pada ranah praktik seni rupa Bandung. Intended as a biannual exhibition, Bandung New Emergence aims at presenting the rich potentials of artistic practice that is borne out of myriads of specific situations in Bandung within certain period of time. This exhibition truly believes that an artwork will always resonate an echo of different situations—social, politics, economics—in which it lives. This exhibition consciously avoids inaccurate and narrow stereotypes of Bandung contemporary art by presenting a wider range of medium exploration. Some of the artists even present their experiment using new medium they have never used before. Some of them work on site-specific works in Selasar Sunaryo Art Space areas. Bandung New Emergence Volume II wishes to show works of young artists who free themselves from the ‘comfort-zone’. Personal fantasy, interpretation of history, socio-cultural concerns, architectural and spatial exploration, and symbolic narration—to identify a few—are just some of the themes mostly explored by the artists in this show. All the works presented here are made specially for the exhibition. This time, the exhibition mainly more functions as an inventive mapping, rather than merely a survey.
